Every Start to Read!™ book has been carefully written and illustrated to provide a rewarding experience for beginning readers ages 4-7. Start to Read!™ books are effective because of their age-appropriate topics, large print, and meaningful illustrations.

Level 1: These books for emergent readers have limited vocabulary. Many words are basic sight words. A short, one-line sentence appears on each page. Simple picture clues provide significant support for the text. Each book introduces 9-50 new words.

Level 2: These brief stories feature controlled vocabulary, simple sentence patterns, and rhyming words. Many of the words can be read by changing the initial sound (sun-run) or by rhyming with a known word (soon-tune). Picture clues provide considerable support for the text. Each book introduces 50-70 new words.

Level 3: These stories contain the most words and new vocabulary. Many words can be read by changing the initial sound (rumbled-tumbled) or by rhyming with a known word (before-roar). Picture clues support the text. Each book introduces 45-150 new words.
