Celebrate 'Get Caught Reading Month' With Workbooks, Apps, & More

Developing a love of reading begins at an early age, and reading to your child plays an important role in development. Babies who are read to are more likely to read earlier, have a better grasp of concepts and learn faster than those who do not.

Last September, the Huffington Post Canada published a sponsored article, “5 Hidden Benefits of Reading for Kids (and Their Parents).” In it, several educators noted that even beyond the obvious benefits, reading increases self-esteem and communication skills and that modeling reading and reading to kids results in ongoing social and educational advantages of many kinds.

Get Caught Reading is a nationwide public service campaign, originally launched in 1999, and supported by the Association of American Publishers. A number of child-centered organizations now celebrate May as Get Caught Reading Month. With summer on the horizon, it’s a super time to turn a few extra pages. However, it’s never too early or late to begin reading and preparing your child with reading readiness activities. So let’s get reading!
