Find new uses for old recyclables. Turn an old cardboard tube into a kazoo. Use a rubber band and a piece of wax paper to cover one end of a cardboard tube. Now hum, sing, or talk through the other end. It’s a kazoo!

Make stick puppets. Cut out pictures of people or animals from old magazines and glue them onto ice cream sticks or chopsticks. When the glue dries, use the puppets to tell your own stories.

Ask an adult to help you make a summertime treat. For one serving of homemade ice cream, measure and mix together ½ cup whipping cream, 2 tablespoons powdered sugar, ½ teaspoon vanilla. Freeze. Then eat!

Draw two balloons. Use markers to decorate them with beautiful patterns. Are your balloons alike? Are they different? Draw another balloon. Can you make its pattern exactly the same as one of your other balloons?

Look around your house. What do you see that would not have been in a house long ago? Would people have used something else instead? What would they have used?
