School Zone Publishing develops and publishes educational materials and products based on national educational standards. School Zone strives to create high-quality, affordable products that meet the development needs of children ages pre-school through sixth grade. We have been a leading educational publisher since early 70’s and we are seeking a part-time Human Resource Manager.
Human Resource Manager Summary
Plans and administers policies relating to all phases of Human Resources; including recruiting, employee relations, policy recommendation, training and enforcement, employee performance and training, and labor law compliance.
Hours: Ideally ½ days on Tuesdays and Thursdays totaling 8-10 hours per week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Recruits, interviews, and selects employees to fill vacant positions.
Identifies legal requirements and governmental reporting regulations to ensure compliance.
Manages Human Resource Information Systems (People-Trak) and maintains personnel files.
Consults with and advises supervisors and department managers on performance improvement process, employee reviews, employee relations, hiring and terminations.
Informs president of employee crises or potential litigation if needed.
Communicates with labor attorney on volatile employee issues.
Makes recommendations for compensation management and administration.
Consults with hiring managers on salary offers.
Prepares and coordinates employee management training for supervisors and employees as needed.
Advises and consults with management on employee / labor law issues.
Plans and conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals.
Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
Interacts closely with all levels of management to ensure that company goals are being achieved through personnel.
Provides input to the Plant Manager on safety issues as needed.
Prepares reports and recommends procedures to reduce absenteeism and turnover.
Represents organization at personnel related hearings and investigations.
Responds to employment inquiries from potential employees.
Utilizes external recruiter to aid in filling positions when necessary.
Refers to federal and state employment laws and School Zone Publishing Employee Handbook as necessary.
Conducts wage survey within labor market to determine competitive wage rate.
Recommends company policies and ensures equitable distribution of agreed upon policies.
Responds to policy inquiries.
Initiates and maintains community relations with colleges and other organizations for recruiting purposes when required.
Keeps record of personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university is prefered
Between two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
