My family is about to embark on some very long plane rides, during which I'm quite certain my 2 1/2 year-old son Ben will delight in jumping up and down in his seat, yelling at the top of his lungs, and attempting to explore every nook and cranny of the airplane. And that will likely be just in the first five minutes of the flight! In the hopes of keeping Ben occupied for at least a portion of our journey, I turned to the early education experts at SchoolZone, who were kind enough to send one of their Little Scholar® learning tablets to share with Ben during our trip. Talk about a lifesaver! After all, the Little Scholar comes pre-loaded with over 200 fun educational apps which are guaranteed to keep Ben engaged and entertained, including videos, songs, e-books and more (a total value of close to $400!). And the tablet is ready to go right out of the box, with no additional purchases, downloads or Wi-Fi required, which is a huge plus when traveling! I cannot tell you what a relief this is, as the last thing we need to be doing when getting ready for a trip is trying to figure out how to set up a new electronic device. I'll be able to simply hand the Little Scholar to Ben and let him have a ball trying out all of the fabulous interactive features - I love this!

Beyond its entertainment value (which is going to come in handy and then some during our trip), the Little Scholar also scores on the educational front, which should come as no surprise since it's made by SchoolZone, a company known for its award-winning workbooks, flash cards and other educational materials. Designed to help kids ages 3-7 prepare for pre-K through 1st grade, the Little Scholar has lessons in a range of subjects, including math, reading, spelling, logic, creativity and geography. On this front, what really sets the Little Scholar apart from its counterparts is the seemingly endless variety of engaging activities, all of which will not only capture your child's imagination but also impart a wealth of knowledge that will help set your child on a path to learning success. These are just a few of the interactive features offered on the Little Scholar right out of the box, with no additional purchase or download required:

  • Start to Read! Books, which offer colorful characters and memorable themes to build a solid literary foundation. The books come in three levels so that your child can move on to the next step when he or she is ready.
  • Interactive flash cards and Fraction Attraction to build math competence.
  • Napoleon Bone Apart, which teaches science & eye-hand coordination.
  • Artistic apps for painting, color and shape recognition to build your child's creativity skills.
  • Charlie & Company™, an original educational series designed especially for the Little Scholar tablet and featuring live action and animated adventures starring a golden retriever and his best friend.

Pretty impressive, right? And these are just a handful of the pre-loaded activities on the Little Scholar! The tablet also features an "A+" reporting app, which helps parents monitor their child's progress and tailor content to fit the learning needs of their children. The Little Scholar is thoughtfully designed for little hands, with a larger 8-inch screen, textured easy-grip protective bumper, and extended 5-foot power cord. The tablet operates on a Google Android 4.2.2 operating system.

I have no doubt that the Little Scholar is going to charm the socks off of Ben, and that I'm going to have a hard time keeping his big sister Sadie from wrestling it away from him during our flight!
