Little Scholar® launched in 2014 to rave reviews from media and consumers alike. It is jam-packed with lessons based on each of the “core curriculum” subjects for preschoolers, kindergartners, and first graders including math, reading, spelling, logic, creativity, and geography.

Think of the fun your child could have with this Little Scholar tablet for kids! With over 30 years of experience in the educational products industry, Grand Rapids based School Zone, the company that’s brought you those award winning educational workbooks for decades, has taken so much of their wonderful content and created this really nice tablet for kids.

When you open the package, you're going to get the tablet itself. The Little Scholar dog will greet you on a bright, cheerfully colored (there are several colors available) rubber bumper. The bumper is textured, making it easy for little hands to grip. The tablet has two convenient charging options, so you'll also find a 5-foot DC power cord, and a USB cord. A fully charged battery has an 8-hour life.

If you will be taking the tablet on the go, it is probably a good idea to purchase the case pictured too. The case is molded on the inside for protection. It also has two pockets, one for the tablet itself, and a mesh pocket for things like little the optional books, kid-safe earbuds, a stylus, etc. It zips closed for further protection and comes with sturdy dual handles on the top for easy carrying.

The tablet has an 8" screen and it comes ready to play with, right out of the box. You can use WiFi or skip it. It runs on the Google Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system. Though it's already loaded with carefully selected learning apps, you can also purchase additional apps if you'd like through either the School Zone Market or the Amazon App Store.

The tablet has both a front and rear facing camera, and a built-in mono speaker. You can see in the picture above that there are various ports to be used. They include a 3.5mm earphone jack, charging ports, and a slot for the Micro SD card (compatible up to 32 GB). The tablet also comes with 8GB of internal storage. This tablet is designed for children aged pre-K through 1st grade.

After a hugely successful run last year with Little Scholar at ToysRUs, the new and improved tablet features the below:

  • Ready to play – with or without Wi-Fi
  • Over 200 apps including 98 songs and 54 “Start to Read” Books – WORTH OVER $400 in free content!
  • All Start to Read!® Books will have read-along audio tracks
  • 8-inch screen, textured easy-grip protective bumper
  • Runs on Google AndroidTM 4.4.4 operating system
  • 2 convenient charging options: USB interface and 5-foot DC power cord
  • Download additional apps from the School Zone Market or the Amazon App Store may be installed

You can purchase this in the online store, or at a Meijer store near you!

Socrates Plush Toy

There are other items you can get on the School Zone website too. They have a new line of plush animals, including Socrates the Owl (seen above). Our youngest son is a big fan of stuffed animals, no scratch that...he's a huge fan of stuffed animals, so he was more than happy to introduce Socrates to his new (stuffed animal) family.

School Zone Workbooks

They also have the large variety of workbooks for different age groups, that you already know and love.

These interactive flash cards come with a flashlight. Project the stencils on the wall for extra learning fun, and some great flashcards, including an interactive set. Inside of the box with these stencil cards is a flashlight.

Bedtime Alphabet Night Time Learning Flash Cards Shadows

We were having a little fun, playing with the shadow stencils. The distance you hold the flashlight from the card determines the size of the image.

Turn the lights off and project the stencil images on the wall. Talk about fun learning! What kid isn't going to love to play with this set?
