School Zone Helps Children Say, “I Can Read!” with iBook Designed for Early Readers

Jog, Frog, Jog is First iBook Release Title

Grand Haven, MI (November, 18, 2010)—School Zone, the leading publisher of children’s educational products, has launched an iBook designed for early readers. Jog, Frog, Jog, part of School Zone’s award-winning paperback Start to Read! Series, can now be downloaded for purchase via iPad’s iBook store for $1.99.

“We have adapted our Start to Read! Series for the digital age to offer beginning readers an exciting new platform for learning early reading skills,” says Jonathan Hoffman, School Zone’s President and CEO. “We chose to make Jog, Frog, Jog available first because of its popularity. Plus, colorful characters and an active, inventive storyline make it a natural for adaptation.”

School Zone's Start to Read! Series is sequential, with three levels for emergent readers. The progression helps children learn to read using attention-grabbing stories with easy, age-appropriate words. Rhymes and repetition aid in building skills and increasing vocabularies; short sentences make learning simple and ensure a relaxed, enjoyable pace. Plus, simple picture clues in the story illustrations encourage picture/word recognition and help children anticipate what comes next. The series, created by School Zone founder and long-time educator James Hoffman, Ed.D., is designed to help parents guide their child with confidence, as he or she enters the exciting world of reading.

Jog, Frog, Jog, written by Barbara Gregorich and illustrated by Mary Sullivan, is an entertaining story about a jogging frog chased by a dog. This Level 1 reader uses one-syllable rhyming words such as frog, jog, dog and log, which bring silly smiles as they also introduce and reinforce important concepts. As an iBook, the story can be read by parent and child together, or can be explored by little fingers in an exciting new way. Other titles available in iBook from the Start to Reader! Series include another Level 1 reader: I Want a Pet and a Level 3 reader: A Different Tune, The School Zone series includes over 30 readers, which will be made available in iBook format over the coming months.
