Can the Little Scholar be shipped outside the United States and Canada?

Little Scholar tablets ordered from School Zone can be shipped internationally, but those orders must be placed through our customer service department by email at webmaster@schoolzone.com, or by phone at 1-616-846-5030.

Does the Little Scholar come with any accessories?

Can additional apps be purchased and/or downloaded on the Little Scholar?

Additional apps can certainly be added to the Little Scholar. Once those apps are downloaded onto the device, they will automatically appear in the All Apps portion of the parent menu. To add them to the children's interface, navigate to the Manage Apps portion of the parent menu, swipe up or down to find your app, then select in which category of the children's interface the app will appear.

All of the preloaded content on the Little Scholar is designed to function without Wi-Fi connectivity.

How do I install the Google Play Store on the Little Scholar?

While Little Scholar uses the Android Operating System, it does not include Google Play services, a requirement of Google Play. Little Scholar includes its own app store, and works with other third party app stores such as Amazon Underground.

How do I install the Amazon Underground Appstore on the Little Scholar?

Please note that School Zone does not provide support for non-School Zone apps that are installed on the Little Scholar tablet.

The following steps will guide you through the process of installing the Amazon Underground Appstore on your Little Scholar. If Wi-Fi is currently disabled, be sure to turn it on in Settings > Wi-Fi.

  1. Access the password-protected parent section of the Little Scholar interface.
  2. Tap the All Apps icon.
  3. Tap the Browser icon.
  4. Tap the address bar at the top of the browser window and then use the Android keyboard to enter the following URL: http://www.amazon.com/getappstore
  5. Tap on the orange "Download Amazon Underground" button.
  6. Press the Home button in the bottom-left corner to return to the main menu.
  7. Tap the padlock in the upper-right corner.
  8. Enter the password to access the parent section.
  9. Tap on the All Apps icon.
  10. Find and tap the Downloads icon.
  11. Locate the item named Amazon_App.apk and tap it.
  1. The list of permissions required by the Amazon Underground app will be displayed. If you approve of those permissions, tap Next to install. Otherwise, tap Cancel to stop without installing the app.
  2. An "App Installed" notice will appear once the installation is completed. Tap the Done button to close the installer without opening the Amazon Underground app, or tap Open to run the app.
  3. The Amazon Underground Appstore should now be ready for use and can be found in the All Apps portion of the parent menu.

Can I install Netflix on my Little Scholar?

Yes, Netflix can be installed on the Little Scholar. In order to do so, you will need access to an app store (e.g. the Amazon Underground Appstore) from which the app can be downloaded. Instructions for installing the Amazon Underground Appstore can be found here.

The steps below will guide you through installing Netflix from the Amazon Underground Appstore.

Please note that an Amazon account is required to download any apps from the Amazon Underground Appstore.

  1. Open the Amazon Underground Appstore.
  2. Tap the magnifying glass in the upper-right corner.
  3. Use the Android keyboard to type Netflix into the search box, then tap the Enter or Go key on the keyboard.
  4. Find the Netflix app in the search results and tap on it.
  5. Tap the orange Install button in the upper-right corner.
  6. Wait while the app is downloaded to the tablet. You may see an orange progress bar near the top of the screen during this process.
  7. Once the download is complete, a list of permissions required by the Netflix app will be displayed. If you do not approve of the necessary permissions, tap on Cancel to end the installation process without installing the app. Tap on Install to install the app.
  8. Wait for the installation to be completed. Tap on Done to close the installation window and return to the Amazon Appstore, or tap Open to launch the Netflix app.

The Netflix app should now be ready for use.

Why are Netflix videos scrambled on my Little Scholar?

When using Netflix on the Little Scholar, the videos may become scrambled after playing for a short time, and look similar to the image below. In order to fix this issue, you will need to change your data usage settings on your Netflix account. The following steps will guide you through accessing and updating those settings.

  1. Scrambled Netflix VideoExit Netflix on your tablet by using the back button in the lower-left corner.
  2. On your computer or tablet, go to http://www.netflix.com/.
  3. Sign into your Netflix account.
  4. Click on the down arrow in the upper-right corner to view the account menu.
  5. Click on the Your Account link found on the account menu.
  6. When viewing the My Account page, find the My Profile section and click on Playback settings.
  7. Your page will change to show Playback Settings. Listed under Data Usage are four options: Low, Medium, High, and Auto. Select either Low or Medium in order to resolve the scrambled video issue.
  8. Click Save to apply the changes to your account.

The Netflix app should now be ready for use and can be found in the All Apps portion of the parent menu.

Why are all my apps missing? Why does the screen say 'safe mode'?

This means your Little Scholar booted in Safe Mode. This option might have accidentally been selected the last time the tablet was shut off by pressing the "Power off" option in the power menu too long. Safe mode will keep your apps from showing in the menus. This can be easily fixed by restarting your Little Scholar. To restart, follow these steps:

1. Hold the power button until the power menu opens.

2. Tap the "Power off" option once, then tap "OK".

3. Wait a few seconds then hold the power button for approximately 10 seconds until the tablet starts to boot up again.

When the tablet is finished booting up, your apps should all be returned to their respective menus.
